Evaluate Your Safe Patient Handling Program Annually

An evaluation of the Safe Patient Handling Program is required on a annual basis to determine its effectiveness at reducing injuries. The results of the evaluation must be reported to the hospital's safe patient handling committee.

The program evaluation must include:

Injury rates - changes in the number of musculoskeletal disorder claims made
Time loss days - changes in the days of lost work due to musculoskeletal disorders from patient handling
Recommendations to increase the effectiveness of the Safe Patient Handling Program

Resources and Tools:

The Wasington Hopsital Services' Safe Patient Handling Review Checklist can be used to develop a program evaluation tool
