In addition to mandating the implementation of a safe patient-handling program, the law (ESHB 1672) prescribes a reasonable and well-defined set of equipment requirements, and provides hospitals with a $10 million Business & Occupation (B&O) tax credit to be used for patient handling equipment purchases. Download the B&O Tax Credit Form.
Hospitals can receive up to $1,000 per acute care available inpatient bed (number of set-up beds that hospitals report to the Department of Health, excluding distinct part long-term care).
The B&O tax credit is expected to cover 90% of available acute care inpatient beds.
However, the committee believes there will be adequate funding for every hospital requiring equipment.
